Cameron’s Story
I was Diagnosed October of 2016 during the heat of school and months before baseball season. Not knowing what really was hitting me I was scared, nervous, and worried for not only for my life but all of the hobbies I love to do. Surrounded by amazing people with nothing but love and support made the transition as smooth as could be. No, it was nowhere near easy but learning about my body and the disease became a huge reason why I am feeling as if I don’t even have the disease.I was fortunate enough to not only be apart of the best regular season Chico State Baseball ever has had but also be a big part of it. Having my best year in my 3 years of college baseball, was able to obtain Conference player of the year, West Region player of the year, All America Honors, and a Gold Glove. Hard work and love for the game we’re some key factors that helped me get to that point but my biggest key was my team. They supported me, always had snacks ready for me, and always wanted to know where my blood sugar levels were. Some even wanted to learn more about it themselves and prick my finger and becomefamiliar with the tools that help me on a daily basis. Without my team, support from my family, and T1D family I would not of been able to have anywhere near the year I had. I owe them my life literally and hope to continue to not only play well entering my last college year but also continue to beat T1D.
