Jordan’s Story

IMG_7240.JPG

I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes on September 22, 2003 when I was just 4 years old. It’s all I have ever known. As I grew up, I learned how to play sports from my older brother and I instantly fell in love. But sports with diabetes presents many challenges. My family and I decided that we would do whatever we could to make sure that I could not only play sports, but succeed in them. We decided that diabetes would not define who I was. I participated in volleyball, basketball, and softball in middle and high school and I now play volleyball and basketball in college. I also spend my time coaching and advocating for diabetes through the warrior program. I am successful in the sports that I play and in academics, which goes to show that you can choose to conquer diabetes instead of letting it conquer you. As my tattoo says, I am greater than the highs and the lows.
