Jaylen’s Story

My name is Jaylen Mayfield and I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2009 at the age of 14.  I am from Waynesboro, Mississippi and a recent graduate of Mississippi State University. I was a member of the Famous Maroon Band where I played the trombone and was an active player of soccer. Diabetes has been a huge motivation factor in my life from knowing completely nothing about it to being able to talk about it for hours. My diagnosis was a scary one as my family and I didn’t catch the symptoms. Now I can catch a high or low blood sugar with ease. Diabetes encourages me every day as a young professional to give my all and not let this disease slow me down! I am moving to Michigan and I’m excited to adjust to my new surroundings and meet new people and continue to share my story!
