Jenna's Story

I never felt like they understood - the doctors. They made it sound like managing diabetes was a step-by-step, easy-to-follow, science. Little do they know, it’s more of an art. I’ve lived most of my life with T1D, diagnosed at age 5, and to say it has been a challenge would be an understatement. In all honesty, I lived most of my adolescent life in denial about my disease; pretending it didn’t exist, not testing, only giving myself the ‘required’ amount of insulin to stay alive..
And then one day something clicked. The realization that this disease wasn’t going away; so I could either continue on a self-destructive path and hope something bad wouldn’t happen, or make a big change and create a life of self-love and care.
Through the 22 years with diabetes, I have discovered my purpose: to help others find strength through their struggle.
My job is to help others live healthfully and see their potential. I get to work with people to love their bodies and find independence in caring for their health.
I am proud to have Type 1 Diabetes because it has shown me just how strong I am and that my perseverance is for the greater good of not only myself, but for others too.
I am proud to show off my T1D gadgets (omnipod and Dexcom) and am thrilled to have the opportunity to educate others about Type one.
Today, I thrive with my disease and I want others to know that they can overcome the struggle and live a fulfilling life without the ‘D’ controlling it. 🤘🏼 We are so much more than the label.
