Brett's Story
I was first diagnosed with T1 whenever I was 16. I knew nothing about it nor did I think it would ever happen to me. I remember feeling terrible for a few weeks. I finally went to the doctor and found out the news. It never worried me or got me down that I had it. I think my parents took it harder than I did. I told myself, well it is what it is. There’s nothing I can change. I’m definitely not changing my lifestyle for this either. From there on out I dealt with it as needed and still did all the things I wanted to. T1 never complicated baseball. Sure there have been obstacles but it’s all trial and error. If anything diabetes has made me stronger as a person. Life could always be worse. I’m just thankful to have diabetes. It’s changed my life but in a good way. It gave me a different outlook on life. I never take anything for granted and always just have fun. I never let diabetes stop me, and because of that I’ve accomplished my dream of being a professional baseball player. Something I’ve wanted to do since I was little. To anyone else out there...don’t let diabetes dictate your life. Chase your dreams!
