Judy's Story

Hi, my name is Judy. I am 24 years old and I’ve had diabetes for 17 years now. Like a lot of diabetics out there, it took me a while accepting this disease. It is a full-time job, with no breaks, no vacations, and it even follows you at night! However, the only thing that pushed me throughand is still pushing me today is positivity. A lot of times I wondered why it happened to me, but then I started telling myself that it is what it is, the situation is not going to change (well for now!), so might as well make the most out of it!

Between my late teen years and my years at university, I wasn’t really taking care of my diabetes. I would eat a lot of fatty food and drink sweet beverages without even injecting insulin or not injecting the good amount. Then, I had to live alone for a semester and that’s when I realized: ‘’ Judy, YOU have to take care of yourself because no one else will! ’’ That’s when I started managing my diabetes the proper way: I took a lot of appointments with my endo, nurses and a nutritionist.  I also got the Dexcom and decided to go on the pump. I think these are the best decisions that I’ve ever made for myself because since then, I accepted having type one diabetes!

I also recently started an Instagram page dedicated to type one(@hyper.hypo) and decided to start my own blog (diahyperhypo.com) since I felt so positive and in control of my diabetes. I wanted to share that with people and help others with some advices and life experiences!

Diabetes sure can be like riding a rollercoaster without any stops, but at the end of the day, it’s how you decide to live with it that makes you keep going!
