My name is Michelle Lord, I am 27 years old and live in Toronto, Canada. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2002, at the age of 12 (it was a Friday the 13th by the way...). When I was diagnosed, my blood sugar was only 10 mmol/L (180 mg/dL), so my doctor wondered if I had type 2 diabetes at first! Unfortunately this wasn't the case, and I just happened to be an extremely early T1D diagnosis. I never got involved with anything T1D related and had no diabetic friends growing up, except for my cousin Brandon, who is also a T1D. It wasn't until a few years ago that I stumbled upon the whole Instagram community and saw all the amazing things diabetics were doing out there: writing blogs, running marathons etc. I got so much inspiration from my new friends to share my story and adventures with T1D.I started my YouTube channel "Michelle Lord" (original name, I know) about half a year ago. The aim of my channel is to show everyday life with T1D, share tips/tricks I have learned over the years, and to spread awareness! I try to keep my channel very positive and high energy to show that you can do anything as a type 1 diabetic, and lead a happy life! It has been amazing connecting with diabetics all over the world through YouTube and Instagram. I am far from the perfect type 1 diabetic, and I still have a lot to work on, but I believe connecting with other diabetics through social media has been the best thing for me and has made me grow as a diabetic!
