Megan's Story

Hi! My name is Megan and I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 6 years ago when I was in high school.  I was scared, confused, and felt alone because I did not know any other Type 1’s.  For years I had a difficult time understanding my diagnosis and only focused on the negatives. Then in college I started volunteering at the University’s hospital and eventually started working in the healthcare field. This helped me to realize I wasn’t the only one facing a chronic illness and that I enjoyed helping people. Today I am working towards becoming a Physician Assistant in an Endocrinology unit so I can help other diabetics. I’ve learned that instead of letting this disease hold me back I should use it as motivation. Diabetes has made me a stronger person and I can’t wait to use my personal experience to help others!
