Sophie’s Story

On February 26, 2019 I was diagnosed with type one diabetes at the age of 17. It was a crazy few months before I got diagnosed because I had no symptoms at all, they caught my diabetes at a very early stage. It was in December 2018 where I decided to check my blood sugar because my dad had the meter, so I thought why not just check it for fun. I realized that my sugars were elevated a bit when they should’ve been between 4-7. After that day, I kept checking. My sugars kept going higher and higher and that’s when I decided to go to the doctors. They sent me to the diabetes clinic in the hospital and that’s when they told me I had type one diabetes. I was learning about insulin injections, finger pricking, highs and lows, and much more, it was very overwhelming for me. From that day, I wanted to educate people about type one diabetes because it seemed many people didn’t know much about it but neither did I until I got diagnosed. I also wanted to raise awareness for type one and that’s when I came up with my brand “Sweeter Times” Sweeter Times is a clothing brand, I’m selling hoodies, crewnecks, long and short sleeve t-shirts and 15% of the proceeds go to diabetes research.
