Anissa Gamble is a Canadian scientist, professional hockey player, and activist in the type 1 diabetes community. Her East coast roots and cross-country experience has shaped her into a passionate, curious optimist person today. Anissa completed her undergraduate studies playing Division 1 hockey in the NCAA at Robert Morris University (RMU) majoring in biology with a concentration in pre-med and minored in chemistry. She went on to study her master of science in experimental surgery evaluating islet cell transplantation under the supervision of Dr. A.M.J Shapiro. During this time, Gamble commenced her professional hockey career playing for the Calgary Inferno apart of the Canadian Women's Hockey league (CWHL). She then moved back to Toronto and plays for the Toronto Furies while working as a research analyst at UHN eHealth of global innovations evaluating telemedicine for T1D management. She is on route to study her PhD at the University of Toronto IHPME program creating a Canadian patient engagement network, educational platform and virtual health care visits. In her spare time, you can find her outdoors working with T1D communities like Connected in Motion, DSkate, JDRF, IChallenge diabetes or Diabetes Hope foundation.

Mackenzie was diagnosed about 8 months ago with T1D and since then has created Mackenzie’s Beads where she makes and sell necklaces and donates all the profits to T1International and the International Diabetes Federation's Life for a Child program, two organizations that supply insulin to those who need it. Kate currently holds the national high school record in long jump, which won her the 2015 New Balance National Outdoor title. Kate is also a 2 time NCAA national champion in long jump winning the 2017 outdoor national championship and the 2018 indoor national championship. Kate also made it to finals in the 2016 Olympic Trials in long jump as well. She currently competes professionally with hopes of qualifying for the Olympics and World Championships. Another goal she has is to inspire other children who have T1D by showing them that this disease doesn’t have to stop them from doing what they love.

Jonathan Tijerina is currently a 4th year medical student at Stanford School of Medicine who was diagnosed at age 13. He is a part of the Dexcom Warriors program and uses the Loop closed loop system to manage his diabetes. He was a 3 sport athlete at Baylor University in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field and was named the Big XII Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2015. Now he's all washed up, but he continues to enjoy runs in beautiful sunny California. He hopes to be an eye surgeon and continue to be involved in the diabetes community in the future.
